During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Americans developed a number of new foods.  What characterised the American cuisine is the adaptation of a fusion of multiple ethnic cooking styles. During this period food production and presentation became more industrialised.

Ingredients for Open Sandwich Veg Recipe

  • Bread Slices 8 slices

  • Butter 1 tablespoon

  • Onions finely chopped 2 medium

  • Garlic finely chopped 4 cloves

  • Spinach leaves (palak) blanched and chopped 15-20

  • White sauce 1/4 cup

  • Salt to taste

  • White pepper powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Cheese grated 1 cup

Method

Step 1

Grill the bread slices on one side, cut them into triangles and keep aside. Heat the butter in a pan, sauté onions and garlic and fry briefly.

Step 2

Add the spinach and sauté for a minute. Stir in white sauce and adjust seasoning. Spread the mixture on the plain side of bread slices.

Step 3

Top each with cheese and grill them in an oven or a griller till the cheese melts or turns golden brown. Serve hot with tomato ketchup.
