Ingredients

  • Spring onion green diagonally chopped
    6 stalks
  • Split green gram skinless (dhuli moong dal) soaked in water for 20 minutes and drained
    1 1/2 cups
  • Oil
    2-3 tablespoons
  • Cumin seeds
    1 teaspoon
  • Mustard seeds
    1 teaspoon
  • Black peppercorns
    1 teaspoon
  • Asafoetida
    1/4 teaspoon
  • Green chillies finely chopped
    3
  • Turmeric powder
    1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chilli powder
    1/2 teaspoon
  • Dried mango powder
    1 teaspoon
  • Salt
    to taste
  • Buttermilk
    1 1/2 cups

Method

Step 1


Heat oil in a non-stick pan.

Step 2


Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds and black peppercorns and let the seeds splutter.

Step 3


Add asafoetida, mix and sauté for 1 minute.

Step 4


Add green chillies, mix and sauté for 1 minute.

Step 5


Add moong dal and mix well. Sauté for 1 minute.

Step 6


Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, amchur and salt.

Step 7


Mix well and cook for 2 minutes.

Step 8


Add ½ cup buttermilk, stir to mix, cover and cook for 3-4 minutes or till dry, stirring once a while.

Step 9


Add remaining buttermilk, stir to mix, cover and cook for 3-4 minutes.

Step 10


Add chopped spring onion greens, mix well for 1 minute and switch off heat. Serve hot.
