Ingredients list for Vazhakai Podimas

  • Raw bananas
  • 1/4 cup Fresh coconut
  • 4-5 Dried red chillies,broken
  • a pinch Asafoetida
  • 2-3 tablespoons Coconut oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 7-8 Curry leaves
  • 2-3 tablespoons Coconut,scraped

Method

  1. Dry roast the urad dal in a kadai till light brown in colour. Add red chillies, asafoetida and roast till fragrant. Cool completely and grind it into a powder. Place raw bananas in a bowl, add the prepared powder, salt and mix thoroughly. Heat oil in another kadai, add mustard seeds.
  2. When they begin to splutter, add the curry leaves and the banana mixture. Cook on low heat for about four to five minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the coconut and mix well. Serve with sambhar and rice.
