Corn was indigenous to America, but is now grown throughout the world. It is used as a vegetable, briefly boiled or roasted or eaten with butter. And it would also interest you to know that the favourite popcorn, made by popping the small corn kernels, is a wholesome cereal food and is easily digested. Besides this, corn sees its use in various other ways – salads, soups, subzis and even sweets too!

  • American corn kernels boiled1 1/2 cups

  • Green capsicum 1 medium

  • Milk 1/2 cup

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Onion chopped1 medium

  • Salt to taste

  • Fresh red chillies diagonally sliced2

  • Cornflour/ corn starch 1 tablespoon


Step 1

Roast the capsicum on direct flame till lightly charred. Dip it in a bowl of water and peel off the charred skin. Remove the seeds and chop roughly. Grind the corn with milk to a coarse paste.

Step 2

Heat oil in a deep pan. Add onion and sauté till lightly browned. Add the ground sweet corn and one cup of water. Stir and cook.

Step 3

Add the capsicum and stir. Add salt, fresh red chillies and simmer. Mix cornflour in quarter cup of water and add to the soup and stir. Cook till the soup thickens slightly.

Step 4

Serve piping hot.
