It cannot be gainsaid that Chinese food is popular the world over and it can be adapted into our modern lifestyles as the strong link between diet and health of body, mind and spirit is epitomized in Chinese cookery. We all desire harmony in our lives and this works on the ancient Taoist principle of Yin and Yang in which balance and contrast are the key. Each Chinese dish reflects a balance of taste, texture, aroma and colour. Be it sweet, sour, pungent, hot, salty or spicy – all the six basic flavours are incorporated deftly in all Chinese dishes.

Ingredients for Sweet Chilli Chicken Recipe

  • Sweet Chilli Sauce 6 teaspoons

  • Boneless Chicken cut into 1 inch pieces thighs 600 grams

  • Fish sauce 1 tablespoon

  • Oil 2-3 tablespoons

  • Garlic 2-3 cloves

  • Ginger finely chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Fresh red chillies 2-3

  • Tomato ketchup 2 tablespoons

  • Chicken stock 1/4 cup

  • Fresh coriander sprigs 7-8

  • Egg 1


Step 1

Add fish sauce to the chicken, mix and set aside for 10-15 minutes.

Step 2

Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Crush garlic cloves through a press and add along with ginger, mix and sauté for 1 minute. Add chicken and mix well.

Step 3

Diagonally slice fresh red chillies and add. Toss to mix and cook for 2 minutes.

Step 4

Add sweet chilli sauce and mix well. Add tomato ketchup and mix again. Add chicken stock and mix. Cook till the sauce thickens and the chicken is done.

Step 5

Chop coriander leaves. Break egg into a bowl and whisk well. Add to the chicken in the pan and keep stirring. Add coriander leaves and mix well. Cook for ½ minute.

Step 6

Serve hot.
