Prawn Curry with Tomato

Prawns cooked with tomato puree and other masalas. A tomato based prawn curry with potent flavors from a generous use of spices and chilli kick. If you are not a huge fan of spicy food, but still like curry, then this Prawn, Tomato and Coconut Curry is for you. This is a Sanjeev Kapoor exclusive recipe.

Ingredients list for Prawn Curry with Tomato

  • 1 cup Prawns (medium) shelled and deveined
  • ½ cup Tomato puree
  • to taste Salt
  • ½ teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger-garlic paste
  • 4 Dried red chillies
  • 4-5 Cloves
  • 4-5 Black peppercorns
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander seeds
  • 1 tablespoon Oil
  • 1 medium Onion chopped
  • 1 cup Coconut milk
  • 2 Green chillies slit

Method

  1. Take prawns in a bowl. Add salt, turmeric powder and ginger-garlic paste, mix well and set aside.
  2. Grind together dried red chillies, cloves, peppercorns and coriander seeds with some water to a fine paste.
  3. Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Add onion, mix and sauté till golden. Add prepared paste, mix and cook for a minute.
  4. Add prawns, mix and sauté for a minute. Add tomato puree and mix well. Add some water, mix, cover and cook on low heat for 2 minutes.
  5. Add coconut milk, mix and cook on high heat for a minute. Add green chillies, mix and bring to a boil.
  6. Serve hot garnished with a coriander sprig.
