Ingredients list for Buttermilk Onion Rings

  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • 4 large Onion
  • 3 Refined flour (maida)
  • a pinch Baking soda (soda bicarbonate)
  • to taste Salt
  • to cook Crushed black peppercorns
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh thyme chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh parsley chopped
  • for deep-frying Oil
  • Chaat masala for sprinkling

Method

  1. Mix refined flour, cornflour, baking soda, salt and crushed peppercorns in a bowl. Add buttermilk and whisk well to form a smooth thick batter. Add thyme and parsley and mix well.
  2. Cut onions into one centimeter thick slices and separate into rings.
  3. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai.
  4. Dip few onion rings at a time in the batter, slide into hot oil, and deep-fry in hot oil till light golden and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.
  5. Sprinkle chaat masala on top and serve hot.
