Ingredients for Braided Pesto Bread Recipe

  • Refined flour (maida) 1 cup

  • Pesto sauce ½ cup

  • Fresh yeast 2 teaspoons

  • Lukewarm milk ½ cup

  • Castor sugar (caster sugar) ½ teaspoon

  • Salt ½ teaspoon

  • Oil 1 tablespoon

  • Mozzarella cheese grated 100 grams

Method

Step 1

Mix together yeast, milk and castor sugar in a mixing bowl. Set aside for 5-10 minutes.

Step 2

Sift together flour and salt into the yeast mixture. Add oil and knead into a soft dough with enough water. Cover and set aside till it rises and doubles in volume.

Step 3

Preheat oven to 180°C.

Step 4

Place the proved dough on the worktop and knock back to release the excess air. Roll out into a rectangle.

Step 5

Spread pesto on top, leaving a thin border along the edges. Sprinkle cheese on top. Roll lengthwise and cut into half lengthwise. Turn both with the cut side up and start braiding.

Step 6

Place the braided bread on a baking tray. Put the tray in the preheated oven and bake for 30minutes. Remove from heat and cool.

Step 7

Serve.
